Re: Confused

  Ellen

My name is Paul and Im the pharmacist Myra asked to jump in. I am a little confused about the watch and wait program for the non hodgkens lyphoma. Usually yhat involves chemo. One of the Chemo regimens used for NHL is called ChOP which is an acronym for cytoxan adriamycin vincristine and prednisone. Apparently you didnt get this as you are asking the side effects of Adriamycin.

I think thet were mentioned but the common ones are low white counts and loss of hir. Adriamycin is toxic to the heart and there is a total allowable cumultive dose, about 550mg/m2.

You re seventy years old and usually the older you are when you get BC the slower growing it is. You have to discuss with the Pathologist what kind of cancer cells were found. Are they estrogen positive? Are they Her2Neu Positive?

As far as what percentage of benefit Adriamycin has to offer you will have to consult with the Oncologist. Even he or she can only guess. Unfortunately cancer chemotherapy is usually a crap shoot. It may well be that the ben efits of further chemo may not be worth the toxicity. But on the other hand they might be. Let us know what they say. We ARE here for you.
